I broke the thumbstick on my Right Valve Index Controller, and the overall RMA process was amazing.
Messaged them about the problem, with a picture attached, and I received a DHL shipping label through email the next day. They paid for all the shipping and I got a entirely new refurbished controller for free of charge.

A lot of people think steam is a monopoly but it’s not. It’s literally just the best game market place and is just damn good at everything they do. I remember a clip once of the CEO or Founder and he was talking about how piracy was good because it motivated him to make such a good platform that people didn’t want to pirate. Steam may be a monopoly, but as a platform, it's great to use. 99% of the time, it's the games that are on it that are the issue. Imagine if management from EA or Bethesda, for example, had a platform like Steam. It would be horrid.

Steam customer support is really great, never had non fixed issues in steam

Pretty sure the steam refunds are just automated and it looks at game play time and how long you have had it. I don't think there's normally any manual review but for exceptions where games have tons of problems they sometimes turn off the time played limit etc

To be fair, only a select number of processed refund requests requiring something other than a bot, is likely 5%, then the actual refunds themselves probably take max 5 minutes from a person since the rules on refunds is pretty cut and dry.
