These longer form blender tutorials sneaking into my shorts algorithm are repairing my attention span and teachingnme at the same time.

I would recommend just alt-s (scaling along normals) instead of adding a solidfy modifier. They look the same and the first one saves TONS of poly count.

For those wondering, ALT + J is "Triangles to Quads"
So what happened is from "Quads to Poked Quads" (makes triangles) to "Triangles back to Quads". This juggling makes the grid look more angular.

bUt wHy stOp hErE!? Put a sleeve on everything! or make a cloth entirely out of this and put cloth physics on it and watch your PC spin to mach 3

Would it maybe be better to use a wireframe modifier after you went tris to quads instead of insetting all the faces and deleting them? Retain more control over customization afterwards and dont have to deal with all the vertices

You can also press alt+s to shrink or expand it.

Tip: don't go overboard with this method the poly count significantly increases

You can also use decimate modifier set to Unsubdivide. It also changes the direction of the mesh. Then use wireframe to add thickness. Results are a bit different but this way it quite procedural!

Does nobody use Cinema4D anymore ? I remember using that back in middle and high school, downloading that sht on all the school computers in the library and sneaking to the library during my “yearbook creation” class. good times… 😭😭

I'd just use a wireframe modifier

Let's say you want this in a game engine. I would propably use the mesh inside as the low poly Base. And the Base with the wires, joined as a object to bake a normal map from. Would it work?
