It's always interesting to A/B older recording to see the improvements.
I wasn't happy with the old version, but I actually expected it to not sound as different

Revisiting a song I already did a full cover of precisely 10 years ago
   • Wake Me Up When September Ends - Gree...

Acoustic this time, a few points I'm not happy about, some improvements, but I had to finish this with the end of september. (more details about the song and recording below for those interested in this)

GEAR
Guitar: Taylor AD17 American Dream
Bass: Fame MM400 (MusicMan Stingray clone)
Interface: RME FireFace UC
Microphone: AKG C414 B-XLS (guitar/vocals)

Software:
Pro Tools
Mixed with various Arturia and Waves plugins
Most notably Arturia COMP-FET (1176 clone, blue stripe) on vocals
Waves CLA-2A on guitar

Video shot with a Panasonic LUMIX G7 in 4K and edited in Da Vinci Resolve, using proxies for smooth multicam editing.

I initially worked over the original song stems, as I wanted to do a full recreation listening carefully to small parts you don't usually notice, like the glockenspiel etc. This turned into an acoustic version, but one big issue was I could not setup the click, the tempo seems to vary. So the rythm is really wonky until the drums come in in the original song.
I also changing the chord positions that I had been playing for 10 years as I realized I had been playing some things incorrectly.
I never understood that little thing BJA does on "last" "fast", etc. Which I think now is more like a vocal trill I think, like staccato breathing, I don't know.
Also "wake", how to raise the note to pitch, was something hard for me.
