I am still learning, but song selection is the MOST important thing for me. I don’t mix professionally or play gigs. I just do it because I love interacting with music and want to make enjoyable listening experiences. I only use FX to help smooth out some transitions, especially for songs that have an abrupt ending.

I completely agree with this. As a club kid in the 70s/80s, I loved to dance. You can't dance to five minutes of scratching 😂. As a DJ, I want people to dance. That is part of the power of music: to make us move in rhythmic ways which in turn can put us into a trance-like state and that state is healing. So song selection and bpm is super important in my opinion. I'm definitely not the most technical DJ, but I love all kinds of music, so that's led to me inserting neo-classical and jazz into my sets 😊 all in an effort to create that vibe for dancer

When I started last year I complimented DJs in the club afterwards when the transition was creative or complex. They appreciated that someone noticed that. But since I'm a Club DJ myself I realized that the non DJ audience won't notice complex transitions. They are there for their favorite music and artists. Reading the crowd, the vibe and making a easy and smooth transition is the most that matters.
