The T-series CPUs are most commonly used is UFF/SFF OEM builds, where power and heat constraints are more intense.

Ah, the 14900 "cooling is not in our budget" edition

Intel badly need to release more "T" CPUs to compete with AMD CPU's efficiency.

T models are usually OEM-only.

G'day Steve, apparently the T versions are Dying too

those T suffix CPUs are just available through pre-built OEM machines, so if you want to get one, you must find pre-builts or buy from people who take this processor kind out of pre-builts (usually takes a while longer).

I remember back in a day there were „S” series cpu. Those were in between the regular cpus like i7 3770 or 4770 and the „T” variants with very low TDP of just 45W. with the „S” series the TDP was lowered to 65W. They were great for all users that preferred the middle ground (mostly prebuilt PC users).

I bet that is a Defective CPU and Intel do not want to waste it :D just a guess. :D

14900T ie what the 14900k should be running at but intel couldn't take L and boosted the cpu with unsafe voltages

The T variants are normally inserted into tiny form factor builds they've been around since the early core I variants as I've just bought a Lenovo M720q tiny with the 8th gen i5 with a t after the number, it can upgrade to a 9th gen core i9 9900T

Worth understanding that these are great if you have a tiny form factor build in mind even if it isn't for gaming.

how can you suggest people to purchase intel cpu's with the ongoing chaos that has been revelead of Intel having messed up their cpu's

I put a 14700T in my router/hypervisor build (before the recent issues were known). That chip is easier to get a hold of.

I saw some discussions about these and it’s really an interesting cpu. I’d love to see if you can find one to do a deeper dive on. ❤

I personally use a 12500T in my mini-itx PC and have found that it isn't often limiting my 4060 ti in games

Over a year ago I got a I5 12500T, and a ASUS Z690 Prime ATX motherboard for $200, and it works great for me. I got it paired with a 4060 and I can game at 1440p to 1080p on the harder to run games on high settings yet draw only a average of 130W to 170W from the wall while AAA gaming. My older rig before the last upgrade was a 10700T. I had a offer for a 12900T for $300, but that price don't justify the cost (maybe if it was $150). I can find these T class CPU easily from certain sellers & channels. The 14th series will take a while to be a regular in these markets, and frankly with the issues with some 13th to 14th Gen CPUs I'd rather stick to the 12th gen.

My low power build runs 14900k at 6.0ghz and 1.48 core voltage.

Edit: it crashed shortly after posting this comment.

They are rare because they require a lot of binning, making them more expensive to produce than the K series chips. In order for them to operate in such power restricted conditions with most of the performance as the regular chips, they need to be stable at much lower voltages.

I had an i7 3770k that could do 5.1ghz on air cooling, it required 1.54v and degraded in under 6 months. I also had a 4790T I got from a friend who didn't know what he was buying, took a lot of time but I was able to get a stable uefi for an asus board that let do a multiplier overclock as opposed the the blk that you could normally do. I got that beautiful chip all the way up to 5.1ghz at only 1.35v. Still had to delid it for air cooling, but regardless I couldn't believe it because I thought my 3770k was a unicorn even being able to hit that speed with ridiculous voltages.
