I think what you need to note is the 2016 version you have shown is actually got a terrible design flaw, the plastic used for the wheel inserts is soft and it causes the siderods to undo themselves, which caused mattel to end partnership with hornby for toy safety regulations, bachmann would take over and fix them uo with DCC as it helped make them run smoother even without the chip
