I think Nintendo has referenced this because in one of the old Mario party games DK has shown to beef with Bowser and even on a physical level kinda like Kong and Godzilla. Though of course now he’s shown to get just as scared as the rest of the characters when it comes to bowsers wrath it shows as Godzilla has beat down Kong which is also why I think they were pulling universals leg with that
