I feel very strongly about my āmid-fiā (whatever the hell that actually means) is truly hifi. The way I put it together, it took a lot of time and effort and research and trial and error. It has great synergy and I absolutely love it. Iām proud of it. It wasnāt cheap, but it wasnāt $100k either. Itās hard not to get angry when someone so casually refers to something I have as midfi. I love this reel John. Youāre the man, my favorite hifi guy and your views align with my own in practically every way.

I went to a Magnolia Hifi store inside a Best Buy in USA and the clerk snickered about my old Pioneer Elite 7.1 receiver with Martin Logan Aerius 1. I spent my money elsewhere on a new stereo just because of that attitude. There are multiple levels of this condescension where even a $3000 system is too cheap for a guy trying to sell a $100k system.

We should all just be glad and welcoming that technology has utterly leveled the playing field. You don't need expensive hi-fi anymore for the first time probably ever, and the best hi-fi ever is better than ever right now. It really is awesome and it's a two-way street, and more music access than ever. It's literally just awesome for all.

Itās all about finding synergy between components and achieving the sonic signature we prefer. This can be done on any budget, personally I have always capitalized on the huge depreciation on higher end products in the used market. One of my best purchases was an estate sale auction, spent Ā£10,000 buying a vast collection of equipment from a deceased audiophile and tripled my return by reselling the items I didnāt require.
