To defeat the X class you gotta warp behind it doing the Picard maneuver used to trick the ferengi. With proper warp hopping you can keep out of the firing arc of the Lance and torpedos.

Reminder: The Spiral Lance Phaser was actually intended for Mining. Not be a main siege gun on a warship. So yeah. It can rip through shields and the thickest hull on any ship.

I still wonder if the phaser lance and the Galaxy X refit were eventually going to be developed by Starfleet, or they were just part of another of Q's fantasies. Either way, it was a great finale.

That spinal phaser was meant to cut down borg cubes xD so i'm not suprised it was a meat shredder against anything else xD
