I was working at a Pizza Hut when the ‘Book It’ program rolled out in the ‘80s. It made us super busy every weekend! Not just the ‘personal pan pizzas’ for the kids, (those cost PH about 15 cents a piece-) but it brought families in for a whole pizza/pasta dinner…

I remember the racks of books in my 3rd/4th grade combo class. The Babysitter's Club next to Goosebumps, miscellaneous beginner chapter books, and Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. Never did understand why some of those were in a classroom of 8 and 9-year-olds. What was the Book It program?
