I have 2 invoices framed and on the wall in my home studio. The first one is the mixdown for Eruption, when it was still called “Guitar Solo,” on October 4, 1977 at Sunset Sound. The second is the invoice for the Beat It solo, recorded exactly 5 years later on October 4, 1982 at Westlake Studios. Not 5150 Studios. Edward’s 5150 studio was not a functioning studio until early 1983.

Folks, the way this is edited is misleading. Watch Steve's interview with Rick Beato and he goes in depth how it was recorded with Ed and hiw he recorded the rhythm & bass tracks. Good interview

Interesting. This is not the way Eddie Van Halen tells the story.

Steve Lukather lies a lot and this clip is no exception. First of all Eddie said that he went down there to play it, he rearranged the chords under the solo, then did 2 takes. Then Michael came in and said "I love that high fast stuff you play". Second of all 5150 was built in 1983 and Thriller was released in 1982. This doesn't prove Eddie's story is correct but it does prove that Steve is wrong in what he's saying here.
