I think if something other dlc (only example I can think of is Splatoon 3) than SOTET got a GOTY nomination a lot more people would argue that it’s not a game, so why shouldn’t we for this one?

It's absurd how a GOTY nominee is actually something you can only play if you own the 2022 GOTY and beat a boss through the main story to reach this potential GOTY

First of all, something cannot be considered a standalone experience when you cannot experience it without the base game. It doesn't make sense and also what happens now is that if a game keeps releasing good enough updates every year it can technically be eligible for the awards every year which also really goes against the whole point of an award show in my opinion. Just create a best expansion category if you don't want to overlook/disrespect DLCs and that's it, a very simple solution.
