have you considered adding a narrow gauge section to the layout? maybe a small circle around the city once the ground for the town is laid, or a simple stretch of straight spanning the upper layer with a passing loop in the middle.

I got one of those cable cars from a gift shop in San Francisco, but it was a bigger scale. It still sits proudly on my mantle.

It would be interesting if someone could modify it to actually be powered by a cable running between the rails. Bonus points if they can also put in a mechanism that grips the cable and brakes, just like the real thing.

I gotta say, I adore these. I pick them up whenever one is going for cheap and use their powered chassis to make tiny locos.
Currently used them to make two freelance shunters, a OO mini steeplecab and a 1/64 New Zealand Tr freelance
