Easter Island's iconic Moai statues, often called 'Easter Island heads,' are full-bodied sculptures, with an average height of 13 feet and a weight of 14 tons. The largest one, Paro Ko Te Riku, stands at 65 feet and weighs 270 tons. Carved by the Rapa Nui people using stone tools, the statues' transportation methods are still debated, with theories involving wooden rollers, ramps, inclined planes, and rope and lever systems. The purpose of these statues and their toppling in the 18th century remain a mystery.

I heard that they โ€œwalkedโ€ the statues into place once the statues were complete. Theyโ€™d use rope and throw it over the top to rock it back and forth causing it to walk. Also heard it was ploynesians, the ancestors of Hawaiians had used it for their village as a port when they lived their centuries ago. Ships would stop by and get their ships fixed or supplies. They became cautious with outsiders when they kept trying to kidnap and enslave them. Eventually they just ran out of resources. Just another version I heard

The main purpose - to fight boredom on an otherwise deserted island.
