A very fatal accident has been reported to have occurred on Sunday afternoon 18th April, 2021 at Ochigbudu in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue state.

According to AkweyaTV reporter from Agatu, David Ngbede Oge, a tanker conveying petroleum product along Oweto-Abuja road had a brake failure after negotiating a sharp bend and crashed into the community. The tanker exploded in flames, razing down houses, other vehicles and motorcycles, killing scores of people.

Our correspondent, at the time of filing this report said the number of deaths, could not be readily ascertained, but not less than 14 corpses had been recovered from the fire by volunteers and a few policemen. The bodies could not be identified as they were burnt beyond recognition.

Meanwhile, the Honorable member Apa/Agatu Federal Constituency of Benue State, Hon Adagboyi Godday, has expressed deep sadness over the incident. He said it is a sad moment for Ochigbudu Community and the entire Agatu nation.

As part of his legislative duties, the Honorable Member promised to do everything in his power to attract the Federal Government’s attention and subsequent interventions through relevant agencies within the shortest possible time to cushion the effect of the loss on the victims and the community.

Our reporter also confirmed that Honourable Samuel Adagboi has called on the Federal Fire Service and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to establish an emergency fire service station within the constituency considering the recent increase in vehicular and human traffic flow through the Oweto – Abuja route.
