Here in Georgia (country) we have over 1900km of double track electrified mountain railway! Adverse conditions are an excuse used by politicians!

I was living in Jersey when they built this station..it's truly remarkable how they constructed it. It's also one of the most beautiful stations I have ever seen.

India is more than 80% rn and is still work on progress for 100 percent, no excuses; Even through Himalayas. In an year or 2, it would be complete!! We have double stack freight corridor all electrified which also do 90 to 100 kph on average!

Still thinking about the UK where we still use lots of diesel units when a lot parts of europe has already electrified almost all of their lines.

What surprised me sometime is that their electric locos have been used so long yet in the UK, we still opt for many diesel loco ones.

It's pathetic that while large scale countries like India on its way to 100% electrify tracks by 2024 with more than 80% already electrified as of November 2022 , China with more than 75% tracks electrified and sparsely populated Russia with more than 50% of its track electrified; countries like USA who lecture others about environment and pollution have only 1% railway track electrified. And please, double stack freight railways can also be electrified like the Indian Western Dedicated Freight Corridor .

As someone living in Ireland, I fully agree with this.

I love how we figured out electrification of rail over a century ago and yet in the uk most of our lines are still diesel... (except the south for some reason who gets all the cool things)

Secaucus Junction, the junction that’s not a junction. But yes, and NJ Transit’s diesel lines are a perfect candidate, too, because they actually own most of their rail network, so the “freight companies hate wires” problem is not that much of an issue. And given the availability of dual-powered ALP45DP’s in the fleet, even electrifying the rest of the three diesel lines that do venture partially onto freight railroads’ tracks would still be worthwhile.

In the US, most of the rail systems are privately owned, and because electrification is expensive it won't happen until there is a substantial amount of government money available to do it.

If it only didn’t cost $1 trillion to electrify the entire American realm at work

Also, electrified trains mean lower travel times, because they accelerate and decelerate faster, which allows for time savings especially on routes with frequent stops.

While full battery powered trucks is clearly questionable, I am now wondering if a battery/trolley hybrid like they do with some buses could work in many parts of the world. Trucks do tend to mostly stick to certain streets after all.

The river ferry system in London (think it’s now called UberBoats) are building electric ferries.
