While he might wish to "forget" he can not. Once trauma enters the brain, it's there for ever. With that said, the brain does have the ability to protect the individual from the most traumatic.
Another possibility is that he has done enough Recovery (therapy) that said trauma is resolved...put in place with perspective and context. Nevertheless, it remains inside his head and body.
There is a book titled; "The Body keeps the score." Within 10 or 11 of reading, I knew it was the very best information I had ever read on the effects of trauma.
