A receptacle located in damp locations (outdoors where protected from the weather where not subject to beating rain) can have the cover for the receptacle that is weatherproof when the cover is closed [406.9(A)]. This means bubble (while in use) covers are not required for damp locations.

As long as it is in a damp location you can use them. I like using the on screened porches and stuff

So you don’t need the weather proof box because you are under the canopy?

In my state that's no longer acceptable, they now require those bubble covers to protect the receptacles when cords are plugged into them.

My county requires a bubble cover within 6ft of the drip line and my employer claimed it was per nec not local amendment.. now i feel i need to do a little research

Is there a NEC definition to what a "damp location" is? I'm a plumber in the Midwest and I feel a 'damp location' would pertain to every outlet in most basements around here 😂

The EMT connectors don't appear to be raintight. It must be for the same exception.

I don't see a point in using snap covers. They are a pain and can kink a cord. I can't think of a reason to not use an in use cover. Plus, at the very least, if you get blowing rain under a porch and in use cover would be nice.
