Actually, a journey as grand as Amani’s takes a village - requiring months of meticulous planning, coordination, and logistics. From securing the necessary permits to pre-transport training to ensuring Amani’s health and safety during travel, this complex process involved close collaboration between teams at the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo and the Toronto Zoo.

When it came time for the big day, a team of animal care professionals from both zoos accompanied Amani on the trip, rotating driving duties and sleep schedules to optimize travel time. Stops were made along the way for rest, welfare checks, and supplemental feedings. And when the transport convoy experienced a mechanical issue, our friends at WestJet Cargo and Cargojet swooped in to save the day – helping us secure a safe and warm place to overnight! A heartfelt thank you to WestJet Cargo and Cargojet for their swift and generous support when we needed it most. 🚚
