To be honest, I never had a problem with it. Apart from obvious stuff such as the isu and an ever lasting war between assassins and templars, there have been a number of inaccurate stuff in the franchise because like they said, it fiction. I heard that the male character in real life did bad things and if ever he became a samurai, he would have been the most dishonourable one. I don't know if he'll join the Assassins but if he does, the normal process of doing so is leaving your pasts and mistakes behind.

We’ve all played the fantastical version of history in these games, if we can suspend our disbelief for a precursor race of super technologically advanced humanoids, then we can suspend our disbelief for a black guy, a historical figure no less, in Japan

People crying here "it's only a game" would go balistic if they put a main char white in SubSaharan Africa settings. The fact is main protagonist was always from the surrounding setting since they introduced it. And yes it is a huge problem when in stead of putting a Japanese main protagonist in Japanese setting they put black or white. But this diversity bullshit in mainstream has gone bollocks lately you can even see it in Valhalla where they have Chinese and Black characters even with Norse names which is fucking ridiculous.
