Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 brings the Metal Gear Solid series to modern platforms while also kind of forgetting to make use of those modern platforms.
Six games are included in total here, with three of them being the 3D MGS games 1, 2, and 3. The MGS 1 port is probably where Konami has spent the most effort, as there are multiple versions available, added trophy support, and also a special menu for pausing. However, the resolution is super low and it looks just like the PS1 game.
MGS 2 and 3 are likewise just straight ports of the HD Collection without any serious resolution bumps or quality of life changes. You still canāt pause cutscenes. Thatās super disappointing.
However, there are neat extras like the Digital Graphic Novels, screenplays, and soundtracks here that make up a bit for the shortcomings.
For the price tag, this compilation feels anything but masterful and actually like apprentices put it together, but these games are still absolutely some of the best of all time and are worth experiencing all over again.
7.5/10
