The God did the native Americans from 1st century to 14 century, really dirty.

Maybe God has determined the Thais to be of such impeccable moral character that they donā€™t need him

I think this is definitely one of the stronger arguments against the Abrahamic religions. And I donā€™t know where it came from, but I donā€™t feel like I hear it brought up too often.

Culture is a strong motivator. We have such strong beliefs which are grounded by very little reason. We will die on hills which stand on nothing, its acually quite impressive how strong cognitive dissonance is.

Buddhism isn't even atheistic, that's the colonial interpretation of buddhism

God doesn't reveal himself to countries or cultures but rather to individuals in their context.

It seems to me that an all-powerful all-knowing all loving God wouldn't care one Whit whether you believed in him or not, and would just want the best for you no matter what you believed

I had this discussion with my fundamentalist father when I was about ten and asked him about the unfairness of someone born in India whose parents would bring them up in the ā€˜wrongā€™ religion with the same passion and plausibility as my father was raising me. His answer was that because of missionaries, EVERYONE hears the message and has the chance to follow Jesus.

Still, I said, itā€™s not an equal chance.

Because the real God is the friends we made along the way. (This is not a joke)

ā€žPlease give me somethingā€œ - this is exactly how I feel. I WISH I could believe in something like a god. I have no problems in following the rituals or traditions the religion I was born in has. They are even giving me a sense of calm and belonging. But I cannot for the love of god (no pun intended) REALLY believe in it and sometimes it frustrates me

Blessed are those who go and preach like Paul said. Itā€™s up to us. Jesus said go preach and baptize to all nations. Those people who never heard of Christ arenā€™t damned. All will be judged according to their works.

This is the question that I have been struggling with for many years. I'm no longer religious so I don't have to worry about it anymore.

"Those of us go, please give me something"--> "But he answered them, ā€œAn evil and adulterous generation seeks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah." Matthew 12:39

After creating a few trillion suns and the very laws that animate and govern them you'd think this deity could have done a bit more to inform his creations about his existence. I mean, could he not give the Inuit a book that was more relatable? How were those guys supposed to relate to sheep?

Had to fact check... Not all Thai Buddhists are strictly Atheistic. Theravada Buddhists have beliefs in spirits or other deities, not specifically called gods though. But his assessment is overly simplistic.

His "please give me something" line at the end brought to mind Matt 12:39 "this wicked and adulterous generation seeks a sign" and the request is explained a verse earlier as coming from pharisees/scribes. Felt like the "same energy." Wicked smart guys but they cant believe without a personal confirmation/personal sign. There is second-hand testimonies and maybe even some first-hand witnesses - among those asking for a sign - to the miracles of Jesus (multiplying food, supernatural healings, etc.) but they can't see it and believe. Need their own sign. Seems like Same energy in that statement of Alex. The written records and the eyewitness testimony isnt enough to see it as the divine. The lack of a personal sign becomes the justification for rejection of Him.
