Amen. Horde of hobbyists is a perfect phrase. Any Joe blow who thinks they have something to say musicallly can release music or put a band together (in L.A. it's especially bad, the delusion is pathetic) and the pros have to compete with them for gigs, income, etc. The market is oversaturated with them even in the live music atmosphere. It's a less than fun head trip.

IDK. I might get back into music, I might not. I found that most people in the industry have Wealth backgrounds and just buy their way in and make up a personal story around it. There are other things to do, I guess. IDK.

i like very much what is stated here

i guess i am one of those who a)

is very serious about making music

b) yet a hobbyist

( not an inherent contradiction really )

well, i do not consider myself an artist, just someone creative

in that all i am glad, that i never was and never will be serious about making music for it to be maketed. i will always pay for making it.

But at the same time i do have respect for ambitious and skilled musicians, who want to, maybe need to ... taking the professional approach and generate income from it

Having said that, i am happy to have found this youtube channel here, after having followed Rick Beato fist, eventually came across Andy Edwards and eventually add this very channel here for inspirational input

There were hords of Hobbyists back then and they were mostly poor and they didnt last. But some others did and these were not necessarily the Rushs. Some just stood their ground and refused to be swept away with every step onwards and learned from backsteps to get better ... this is what I miss today ...
So much bands ... they appear "ok and go "ok soon ...
I dont reember their names ...

The horde of hobbyists is exactly what I think is wrong with the music industry today (if you completely ignore the corporate greed machine...).

I'm sensing this shift now where a lot of the A-Listers really want to get back to the roots of their passion though, and I think that's cool.

When you weigh them against each other, I think we're soon going to have a sort of "reverse underground" scene.

This all might be a few years in the future, but my spidey senses are tingling.

Unfortunately I see more and more that people don't put up with it, as it's more comfortable and convenient to do it yourself at home. And bad music maybe is just a result - at least partially - that people don't have those very direct feedback from band members they might need to not to live in a bubble. So they may have the potential to turn into great musicians and songwriters, but they won't. Plus today's culture of praising everyone to avoid offense, where the virtue signalling holy trinity of "stunning, inspiring , and so brave" and removed dislike buttons are the norm erased the very last "check and balance" and made it easier to apply cognitive dissonance. But more importantly you will miss a lot of life experience and opportunity to improve social skills if you play for yourself in a bedroom. And I am not just talking about those messy stories that you could fill a book with even if you played 5-10 years in band during your high school and university years, but also the joy of sharing new bands, new instruments and new techniques with people who are just as into it as you are.

Yep!!! And, musicians, songwriters, producers who were serious (like myself), now have trouble navigating the overly complex, bloated world of plugins, DAWs, streaming platforms, etc. It was difficult back then, but simple. Now it's easy, but complicated.

Exactly true, then there's talk of tools so non-musicians can write music. I write modern music, from scratch, not brilliant, but not bad either, I've put the time in because I care about making it, except, often there's no pool party. What's the deal with that???

"Horde of Hobbyist" coming to your town ... check concert ticket availibilty soon

progressive punk ska spiced up some with oriental sounds, is how some critics describe their crazy blending of styles. Expect to stumble and fall, if you try and dance to their rhythm
