Another current example of what Mr Sowell said decades ago, Medicare Part D is limiting out of pocket drug costs to $2000/yr - so what did the insurance companies do? Increased Deductible (except for 1 in my zipcode) to the maximum... and Raised Monthly Premiums on my current plan 38%. Even then the total number of plans offered went from 30 for 2024 down to 14 for 2025. Next year they will limit premium increases as well. How many companies will offer plans in 2026? 10? 6? 2? And how many will limit covered drugs to cheap generics ONLY? And if a drug has no generic since its still under patent? I guess people will be out of luck.

I live in a beautiful city. There is very little low cost housing, and rents preclude many people from being housed. There are numerous condo buildings being built, but most average income earners can’t afford the strata fees. The city is turning into a land for the wealthy. I guess that’s just human nature.

You know Thomas, it just occurred to me that this principle is played out in Scripture, but in another scenario, that of water in the desert!
Jacob was having trouble with other sheepherders taking control of his wells. Fights were breaking out due to the lack of water, even among his own shepherds. Instead of going to war, rationing, or charging taxes the man DUG MORE WELLS! He dug wells until the fighting stopped, he even named the last one he dug, "finally there is enough" to commemorate the monumental event.😂
I never understood the economics of that situation until now. Such a simple solution to a real problem.

MY-WORDS OF ABSOLUTE TRUTH--The rent controls enabled more poor people to rent apartments nearer to their business or work. Naturally, with more people renting in an area, a shortage of apartments results. With high prices, people must live 2 families in one apartment. The other higher apartments become or remain vacant. That is not good for poor families. The rich apartment owners do not care because they still make a very good income. They DO NOT TRULY NEED the extra income which removal of price controls allows or else which a "free market" would, might allow, promote. So, A SHORTAGE IS A GOOD SIGN.
