I learned as a child when I saw Gorillas in the Mist with Sigourney Weaver.
The movie uses both real gorillas and fake ones (people in gorilla suits) but the sound design is surprisingly realistic.
Not only does it feature real chest pounding sound effects, but also real gorilla roars, which (you guessed it) also sound a lot different from what most Hollywood productions would have us believe.
