I remember reading a Reddit thread of a former Boeing engineer. He mentioned how the higher ups were firing the engineers who werenāt giving the āgo aheadā on certain designs. Theyād bring in a new guy that would bend the knee for the corporate overlords. And here we are with planes that arenāt built with absolute precision.

Spoilers are not to slow the plane down. When spoilers are up, they do create drag which does slow the plane, however, pilots use spoilers to lower a planeās altitude without pointing the nose down and increasing speed. The spoilers, spoil the air flow over the wings which decrease lift.
