📍 Totto Ramen Midtown East, East 52nd Street, New York, NY

A few weeks ago Totto Ramen reached out to request a commission for their Midtown East location! They’ve previously had artists create murals for them in other locations and have always allowed them creative freedom with what they’d like to create which I thought was so cool.

I was working on this project for 3 hours in the morning when I realized I couldn’t save the parts that I felt didn’t sit quite right with me and should just start over. This felt really unprofessional and I was pretty embarrassed, but I’m really lucky that their team doesn’t have a deadline/ is allowing me to use this as a learning opportunity to explore my creativity. So they didn’t mind and I’m so grateful!

I hope you’re able to learn from my mistakes and make sure to stay tuned for part 2. Really psyched for my redemption hehe

I love the fact you show your “mistakes”. So many famous artists have painted over other paintings or drawings that didn’t turn out the way they wanted. Tomorrow was a new day. Show’em what you got!!!

If I was that business owner I would feel grateful that the person I hired to do the mural cares enough to want to start over if they aren’t happy with it.

I really respect you admitting to the mistakes made and having the courage to ask for a redo as well as posting it! It's so easy to sanitize our lives into perfect little reels but this is so much more authentic and relatable, and therefore enjoyable content

I would recommend taking photos before starting and doing mockup composition on a digital medium or print out from experience

You are very talented and don't be too embarrassed. I've painted for many kinds of business and I never take their word for the size of projects. Always measure in person and redraw most of what I need to paint and then trace it on the walls. I even take old school projectors which work great in weird structures. Its a learning process. Just keep going with it, show them your best and you'll ge tons of clients.

As another artist, I think having the self reflection and courage to start over is impressive and something I would definitely struggle with!! As a customer who’s commissioned artists, I have infinitely more respect for someone who admits they messed up and need to fix it!! You’re doing great’
