I had a friend who read books so fast, but her reading comprehension was terrible. She insisted that Harry Potter died at the end of the series and everything after was a dream. She had to be told by multiple people that she was wrong before she realized she had skimmed too fast to understand what was going on.

The energy of the fast reader is spot on. Sometimes I want to savor a book or have to digest the content. My reading speed is stupid fast as is my comprehension. My brain takes a lot to slow down. Sometimes I read and listen to a podcast at the same time sped up and scare my friends with my retention of the material. It's not fun when your brain runs away with you and the only way to concentrate instead of reading the same thing 30 times is to speed through it. And add other distractions.

Last time I commented on of these types of things, everyone called me a liar because Kindle said I finished 432 books last year (241 so far this year). And that doesn't count all the half-finished books because my ADHD kicks in and I'm off to a different story. Like people believe it's impossible to read more than a book a day. Plus, no one is going to change my mind that audiobooks count as reading, and if I add a few short romance novels to enjoy the HEA, they still count. Not everything has to be over 1000 pages of dense text, though I've read plenty of sci-fi/fantasy like that too. No reading gatekeepers, please!

I'm the slow reader. But the good part of it is: while i'm reading, my brain analyse, reorganize and strukture the information and put it in context to all the other infotmations, I have. There for I can memorize, what I had read for a long time. It's more than consuming. It is working through. Of course it is often not necessary, but sometimes it is usefull.

I worked in publishing in NYC for many years and almost everyone in publishing reads multiple books in a week. I was never much of a tv watcher, and I read on the subway during my commute (2 hours a day) so I was reading up to 10 books a week. (When you work in publishing, you are expected to be well-read, and access to lots of free books is a huge job perk.)
Edited to add: reading comprehension is so very important, not just speed.

You really nailed the sort of ferrrety and frantic look of a fast reader who is looking at the end of their TBR and starting to flail
