I don’t blame anyone for not wanting to have kids as expensive as everything is now.

My son & DIL (both 29 y/o) have an income > $500K, own their own home and have a robust retirement account started. But they're not having kids because they're very uncertain about existential issues like climate change and the rise of fascism in society.

People who don’t have kids are eons more mature than someone with 8 kids. I’ve worked the service industry with kids and their parents for decades and the proof is there.

That’s me! When my degree is finished and i meet a girl who can be a real partner, I’ll start thinking about kids. The U.S. is too expensive to half ass family planning...

The real problem is that the people who ARE having kids don't have any standards and it shows in their kids.

The standard of readiness for having a family should have ALWAYS been high or the world wouldn't be in the situation it is right now. So it's good that people are thinking twice about having children.

I found that you need to be very ready to have a child. It can be wonderful, but it is a roll of the dice. Money, friends and family makes it possible.

And so expensive too!

That being said, I personally am not having kids because I'm too selfish and my partner is too immature 😂
For real. But I truly feel for everyone who is struggling, and will fight for a system where starting a family is more feasible

Yes, absolutely nothing wrong with that checklist..... nothing wrong with being more mindful, emotionally ready, and financially stable. Gen Z and younger generations are going about it in a smarter way.

Student-paid tuition for college with ever increasing costs and diminishing returns as well as inflation for housing and healthcare far outstripping wage gains is another factor in this discussion. As a millennial we were propagandized to see the narrative of higher Ed. -> Career achievement -> housing/lifestyle attainment, et al. as a time sensitive linear progression wherein any failure or deviation from expectations could result in a sort of self-imposed (or societally imposed) exile from the possible goal of procreation & family creation. Naive but true.

Not having kids because I don't want to.

A good country isn't going to have a large number of people questioning whether they should be having children.

This was a powerful interview, and as a 37 year old woman without kids, I related to it completely. But they didn’t provide concrete advice that would encourage people to have kids aside from government policies advocating children.

we would have more kids if things weren't so... much. y'know?

And…many women don,t WANT kids…they find fulfillment in careers…in other things.

If you wait till you have everything you want for it to be perfect, you will never have kids.

Also, what if they have a kid that doesn't want to get a PHD? Just kidding, they are frightened of children who come out knowing how to use an iPhone.
