I have a 2004 Mazda6s- problem was inconsistent speed of fan- hit a bump and it would stop-
Bought a new $25 Chinese resistor- works great-
HOWEVER- access was VERY difficult for me to get the 2 screws out to remove old French resistor-
T-20 did not fit tight to screw( metric?)
- what I did to get access to 2 screws of resistor, was to remove a box to left ,turned out it was the blend door( problem happened as I did not get the blend door, spring loaded lever to “ up position” - now I have constant “ hot” no ac
To fix: remove actuator of blend door an move lever from 9 am to 12 pm- NOW screw down blend door box w 2 screws

My problem is the connector itself has melted a little. I can find a new resistor, but I'm having a ton of trouble finding a new connector. :( I wouldn't mind bypassing it altogether and just having the blower at full speed all the time, but I don't want to mess it up since I have no real experience doing something like that.

This was exactly my problem! For a few months I was able to get away with just wiggling the connection and it would work again. But it finally got too bad and wouldn't work. I took the resistor out, but the green connector was melted into it! I cut it back halfway, allowing the connection to be plastic free, but still retaining the ability to clip back in. Worked like a charm, thanks! You saved me some time and frustration tracking down the source of the problem!
