I think oppression is too narrow a category. For example, think of a financebro rationalizing fucking over a customer. He justifies it saying the system is all about greed. Is that oppression? You could twist it that way perhaps, but I think the more apt term would be to say: cynicism is almost always an excuse to rationalize wrongdoing.

IDK, whenver I hear things like this it always comes across as very naive and detached from the real world. Like a manifestation of a Live, Love, Laugh poster.
One has to be either delusional, privelaged or ignorant to tell people in current time to 'be optimistic'. World has always been a bad place for the majority of population ever since human civilization began, to hope that won't be the case in our lifetimes is absurdity.

I know Iâm a cynical person but at this point in time things such as global warming are just a pointless waste of time, weâre already past the point of return and countries such as China and Russia arenât gonna switch away from fossil fuels like we are trying too not to mention third world countries that donât have a choice or infrastructure to switch from them. At the same time Iâm all for cleaner power and more sustainable options but Iâm also not blind to the fact that itâs not going to change whatâs already been done and the fact that somethings just canât or wonât be changed fast enough. And this doesnât make me feel superior it makes me sad that I think in such a way whereas this seems like the only outcome.

Indiscriminate pessimism is the ultimate self-fulfilling prophecy. If we donât believe things can be better, we stop trying to make things better, and then guess what? Things donât get better.
