To me it depends on terrain, like in urban combat I’d put tanks in the rear to prevent a ambush and in ranged I’d put tanks up front

Thats always a case by case question. Depends on your army terrain opponent and the function of said tank

mass force combat tank in the middle leading but surrounded by troop support with the weakest infantry behind the tank and my shock troopers at its sides since it takes so much to engage in flank response with a unsupported tank. the basic spear head.

Uusally I put as many melee units in them and move them up fast to drop them giving my melee unit cover fire while also my melee unit pushes any enemy melee unit pack allowing my tank to fire into the blob

In real life the equipment costs millions of dollars. They wont place it in harms way unless there is a equal advantage to losing that piece of equipment. Yes it would seem like the viable option to let armored units roll in first but go one layer deeper logically and you’ll see the logistics etc at play behind every good strategy. Light armored units with infantry to test the enemy defense maybe while pounding them with artillery from your lines

Depends on the game, are you playing for kill points or objectives? Tanks usually can not hold objectives but are worth a lot of points if killed.

Little bit off topic here, but man you should get a 3d printer. Especially those resin ones, you can print your own miniatures and as many as you want and its just very nice. And theres thousands of models to print out there. If you want some more info im here to inform you cuz i know my way around them.
