These cops found a computer with $3 billion in a popcorn bucket.
And it all belonged to a regular guy named Jimmy
In 2011, he accidentally discovered a bug in the system of the illegal marketplace Silk Road.
By clicking a button twice,
Jimmy would receive double the amount that was in his deposit.
But one day, several hundred thousand dollars were stolen from his home.
He decided to call the police.
Just imagine the thief of 50,000 bitcoins worth $3.4 billion, who was being sought by the police, calling them himself.
The police officer asked him to open his balcony to search for evidence.
The guy trusted the police so much that he left his computer on.
The inspector inserted a jiggler, a software used to simulate the movement of a computer mouse.
Now the screen wouldn't just shut down.
Five minutes passed... and the officers with the search warrant were there.
They found a single-board computer with $3 billion in a bank under the popcorn.
And a safe with cash.
And so Jimmy was sent to prison for a year.

kinda bad reporting tbh, while he did steal from silk road, Ross Ulbricht found out about this and later contacted him to give up the vulnerability he used in exchange for more payment and allowing him to keep the amount that he had already stole.

since the alleged "victim" here let him keep the money, for disclosing the bug, it wasn't theft

police raided him and stole his money unjustly just because the money itself was connected with the silk road, which was a criminal enterprise and they just wanted to sieze it for profit themselves

the guy who was raided did nothing wrong and just got paid for vulnerability disclosure
