California is a strange state. Everything they do has the exact opposite intended effect.

Back when I was farming, we would call the bee keeper before we sprayed. He would pick up the bees and then bring them back after the spray had worn off. If you kill his bees, he won't come back.

I remember when farming was a symbiotic relationship between the earth and wildlife. Boy the world just sucks worse everyday.😢

Mobile/Migratory bee keepers rent their hives for a couple hundred dollars for 4-6 weeks for almond pollination. Then they take their bees to another place, to pollinate another crop. They work nearly all year, rotating around the US.

I'm a farmer from California and we go to Great extent to protect our bees.

I grew up on an Avocado Farm in So Cal. We never killed any squirrels that I can remember, we did kill a lot of crows.

The only squirrels that I know died were the ones my dog hunted and ate. Before we got our dog we had a couple dozen squirrels eating acocados and laying on our lawn. Within a month they were all gone.

I think we should be more concerned about the chemicals used on our food.

This is no exaggeration. I rented a house on a farm (no farming rights, just the house) and I got to see a small number of the wild life that gets killed every year when they prep the fields (3 times per season there). Like seeing it outside your own front door is different than hearing about it.

As an almond farmer who farms both organic and non organic orchards. I can say this man speaks truth we target the squirrels and gophers. 300 acres and we kill hundreds a year at most a thousand but for the non organic orchards we kill millions if not billions of bugs with pesticide sprays… the bees however we source locally they survive.. gotta save the bees !

Not to mention the massive amount of water avocado trees require. The farms growing these trees are drying up the aquifers below them.

I didn’t know Joe Rogan cared so much about squirrels. Sounded like it hit home when he mentioned how many squirrels were going to die. 😂😂

When the bees go away we go away. Nothing more than that we need our pollinators.

Im from Fallbrook, and we were the avocado capitol of the world, and now there's hardly anything being grown like in the past. The majority of the groves are grape and wineries, but that's starting to shut down too.

Just because you don't personally kill or eat animals, doesnt mean others arent killing them so that you can have your healthy vegetables, fruits and grains.

It's not just to do with veganism; it's profit/yield. If you understand how much of farming produce is lost because of moulds, insect infestation etc. it's insane some years. We either want cheap food and a variety of it, or insects and birds and a thriving eco system. We can't have both without good management.

Kansas farmer told me that he went on a sponsored U.S. Government trip to South America to observe avocados growers. He watched them harvest the avocados from the trees and box them up and watched place a sticker on some of them that had the word “Organic “. He said the only difference between organic and non-organic is a sticker… lol

The red squirrel depicted in the video, to my knowledge, is not a ground squirrel.
If the ground squirrels that are being culled, are Townsend’s Ground Squirrels…then good riddance.
The gray Townsend’s Ground Squirrels, are one of the most destructive pests known to man.
They breed at such a prolific rate, that it is truly astonishing.
These type of ground squirrels, penetrate any type of structure that they possibly can.
This includes parked equipment, homes, out buildings, well heads and barns. etc.!
These squirrels urinate and defecate everywhere that it is possible.
If a vacation home or home for sale, stands empty for any length of time and the ground squirrels get in…OMG.
The special disinfectants, new carpets and painting will cost a fortune.
If the squirrels chew on electrical wiring, this can start a fire which can burn the structure down.
My experience with the California Townsend’s Ground squirrels, was based on dealing with them for 25 years…on my ranch in the Rogue Valley of Southern Oregon.
Coyotes that kept the rodents in check, were exterminated by ranchers who enjoyed killing coyotes for sport or thought that the coyotes represented a threat to a few sheep on their hobby farms.
The best poison bait (from a company in Talent, Oregon), for controlling ground squirrels, was pulled from the market in Oregon, because some stupid farmer used it to kill Canada Geese who were raiding his alfalfa fields.
