TOTALLY NOT UNNECESSARY to recap every conversation with a toxic boss. Super super smart

Love how she says " I can see why someone in management would thinks it's unnecessary"

I love Veronica. I have managed professional corporate employees for 30 years, I like it when employees do this. It is fair to both of us.

My boss taught me this 20 years ago. One to CMA, and two; to make sure that everyone in the conversation is on the same page. It has never let me down.

Absolutely necessary, in my previous job my boss was this person. Told me to do something and then a week or two later he would change his tone entirely and tell me I got it wrong or he didn't tell me to do that. Had enough of his issues so I gave my resignation letter in and left effective immediately without giving 2 weeks notice due to mental health decline my boss had caused.

Recap emails are important. I'm in leadership and appreciate when my crew uses this tool. I do it constantly with my bosses and customers. If you're not two-faced in the way you carry yourself there's nothing to worry about.

I love how I am actually getting good work advice from this. This would be helpful since I do tend to misunderstand things or forget things after a while.

The "read receipts" saved my butt so many times with a supervisor that frequently "lost" printed certificates, emails, or course completion printouts.
Just started emailing everything with a the read receipt.

EXACTLY
My number 1 advice when dealing with snake managers.
You can’t prove this is what they said, but you can prove this was your understanding and that they were aware of that.
Anything that goes wrong is on them assuming it’s a result of this and they didn’t correct you.

Document, document, document. You can't do it enough. We caught a manager secretly altering employee time cards by recapping conversations this way.

Everyone should do that to make sure things are being communicated and fully understood. It's definitely necessary.

I'm a supervisor and I encourage my team to message me a recap. That way I can see what they took away from the convo and I can add to it if needed

I don't do this with every conversation, but where I work, "How can this come back to bite me?" goes through everyone's mind with each policy-involved interaction (because so much has the possibility of ending up in court). I've used e-mails for contemporaneous documentation since I started over 23 years ago. I have been extremely blessed with almost all supervisors dealing very well with me, and I let every new supervisor know that I use e-mail for documentation as well as reminders to myself. They usually respond that they do the same thing.

I've coached colleagues at other facilities to do this when they talk to me about difficult administration. Funny how supervisors sometimes react when my buddies actually do it!

A coworker is going through that since management promised him a raise then acted like they never did when performance reviews came around, now he wont talk to management or HR without recording the conversation.

Even besides the 'paper trail,' aspect, i appreciate having something in WRITING that I can reference if im unsure im taking care of something the way i was instructed to do so.
