As a Christian & follower of Jesus Christ for decades, I was taught to value the Jewish Old Testament & take it literally as the Word of God. We value Biblical history & honor the great care Jews took to keep it protected & accurate. We do, also see figurative meanings & and spiritual lessons to be learned throughout the Bible that come from those historical writings.

Amen! Iāve been a Christian since I was 9 years old and read the Bible for over 30 years, it wasnāt until I started learning the scripture from a Jewish perspective (our Pastor teaches from a Jewish perspective and breaks down the words in Hebrew) that I finally understand the Bible (still have much much more to learn).I wish I would have known years ago about learning the scriptures this way. As Gentile Christianās we need to learn about the Jewish culture, the historic time the Bible was written in etc. Yeshua used many Jewish idioms and my Gentile brain was unable to comprehend it . I will forever be indebted to the Jewish people, Godās chosen people. The Lord will prevail, He is really drawing His people to Him. Iāve read so many stories of non religious Jews who maybe were atheist are now starting to want to pray and go to synagogue. The Lord is so gracious and merciful to His chosen people. I canāt wait for the people
Of the world to know when the Messiah is ruling that the Jews are Gods chosen people! The nations that hated Israel and were Israelās enemies will have to honor Israel and if they donāt, Yeshua will deal with them.

As a gentile who was brought up first in the Roman Catholic then the "evangelical" church , I would say because of a mixture with; Pride, Ignorance, and laziness.
Pride because they presumably have "spiritual gifts of exclusive knowledge" it feels good, and would not admit their limitations.
They will remain with....their ...
Ignorance despite of the urgency to answer the critical questions.
Laziness is a friend of those who fear to confront The Truth.
Often they just dismiss the meaning of a plain biblical text.
Because it is a challenge to study.
