As much as I've studied everything I could find on WW2 over almost 40 years, especially the Navy, I never heard even a hint about this! Fantastic, thank you very much for posting it!

Ken, it's fantastic to see the channel growing as you develop a niche appeal in this populated subject...proud to say I think I was one of the first 100 albeit under another email....I've been thinking about sending you some stuff about the Marines ww2 activities here in New Zealand..kind regards, daniel

I had a childhood friend named Don Huggins in Virginia Beach. His dad landed an Avenger on a carrier with one wheel down just like in this video. For all I know, that is him.

I've never heard about that. What ships actually did this?

Iā€™ve wondered that at times. A good idea, hopefully the scout doesnā€™t run out of fuel before the flight deck is cleared or repaired. I guess there may be another carrier in the vicinity to take it on board.

I am a serious history buff but I have never heard about this. All of the pilots were heroes but the pilots launching out of the hanger bay were taking brave to a whole new level.

This is so impresive, keep up the good work.

I thought army was cool but airforce and navy are nothing less, if not even more impresive.

There were no catapults on the upper deck systems on Essex class CVs. They turned into the wind to launch planes.
