something iv realized since having my second child is that old phrase (it takes a village, to raise a child) is bull shit
it takes a village to replace a parent.
and from what ive seen the village has been doing a shitty job of it.

It's so true. Nobody really talks about this. Nannies are the worst for kids, especially if they don't stay around too long. This is very traumatizing for the kids.

I used to work at a nursing company visiting patients in their home some years ago. Naturally, people would ask about your life and would get to know you and you them. At this time I had 2 older kids and 2 small children at home that I would delight in talking about.
One day a wife of one of my patients said that she thought I would rather be home raising my kids and I took offense to it, assuming that she meant I wasnā€™t being a good nurse. I know that I poured my heart and soul into caring for my patients and treated them like my family so it concerned me that she thought that.
I look back on that conversation and no matter how she meant it, I realize that she was absolutely right. While I love nursing, my favorite job in the whole world is being a mom.ā¤ļø

Having kids is not an accomplishment. Raising them is. If you donā€™t want to give them your time and presence then donā€™t have them.

Thank you I look around at all these people who have kids but neglect them because that small screen in front of their faces gets more attention then their children

I didn't have a career.just a regular office job. Had my son and for 14 years worked at a call center fromc3 days a week from 6p-midnight.. went to work when my husband got home. Was lucky to have family around, but we never had to use daycare, which today is crazy money.

Why do women assume that they should have a career separately from bringing up their children?

It really comes down to selfishness.
Your ā€œcareerā€ is more important than your own kids.
Your screen is more important than your kids.
Your subscriptions, Nest, internet, Starbucks, and takeout- ALL more important than your kids.

So why did you have a kid? Thereā€™s only one thing that causes it. No such thing as an ā€œaccidentā€.

I felt just like this woman does until I realized that a government system always means government control. I do not want the government involved in my care for my child. I like our system-- be accountable for yourself and your family, and help others whenever you can.

Contradictory to say that we need maternity leave and to say that there best thing for a child is to be close to his/her parents.
Unless your maternity leave is 5 years. Either the parents work and the child is neglected/babysat, or one parent raises the child and doesnā€™t work.

America should have a 1 income family structure again. Taxes and government spending is out of hand. You are seemingly making it sound like mothers should have careers suggesting the power and influence of a mother is less than having a career. We have become slaves to careers trying to fit a family around it and if we can't do it then don't. Watching this is not goving me hope. It makes me think you don't fully support families but rather the importance of making the "right" choice for you. That's not going to save America.

I do not Understand the newer generations as a Mother and why so many of us have all allowed our boundaries to be trespassed on as a Mother of the Earth.

Switzerland has a paid maternity leave for about 3 months. Most mother take a longer but unpaid leave.

In France maternity leave is 12 weeks and school (kindergarden) obligatory for each child at age of 3. It's horrible and exhausting, cause children have to stay from 9h to 17h.... All circumstances are there to cut the attachment with our babies since youngest years.

My first child I had 23 years ago since then I have had 2 more children and have been a stay at home mum as we could afford it. I have worked in schools in school hours, and now I also work during school hours. My youngest is 12 and we are always together as a family including my 18 year old, it takes alot of effort to raise childre. I did not have a great career but I have been here for my family, my eldest 23 who has autism has recently moved out and I have abit more time to myself. Family is everything the competition in this world will never end šŸ˜Š

I would agree with this notion if we could go back to a one income family structure here in America. The only way we make up the money needed to pay women on maternity leave for any long period of time is if we skyrocket the taxes. That is not going to work here and I donā€™t want it to. We have to go back in time rather than go forward into socialism.
