One of my favourite Stellaris moments involved this guy: I had just lost a naval engagement against the Khan, one of my strongest stations and my strongest fleets put up a good fight but ultimately lost. The Khan, triumphant in his victory, jumped into the next system where a 20k station waited for his 78k fleet. I was certain that I was going to loose that battle, and I was right, but that stations had a vendetta against the Khan and focused all of it’s attacks on his ship. Right before we lost the station the Khans ship was destroyed and though we lost the battle his empire was divided up between lesser leaders after his assassination later, allowing me to reclaim my territory.

I once had a great Kahn survive until the endgame crisis, having the lesser fleets batter against my great fortress stations. When the unbidden arrived, not only did the Kahn choose to lead the coalition, but I joined him. I flew my largest fleet alongside his flagship. During the final battle, victory was all but certain, but then the Kahn’s flagship was destroyed

I kind of like that they become a normal empire. OK, maybe a special feature would add a little flavour, but the sort of empire they become does vary based on conditions and a bit of chance (as I recall?) So if they have planets but no satrapies it's a normal empire, but if they have a few satrapies then I think they have a chance to become a hegemon OR, and this I think is a rather cool 'redemption arc', a xenophile empire with their former satrapies as federation members?
Though if they take any of my planets then I will invade and nerve-staple every last one of their pops to make a point.

The first time I had this "Great Khan Crisis" I couldn't stop laughing because at that moment I controlled half the galaxy, my leader had become an immortal goddess through a pact with the Great Old One, and I was just then finishing my revenge on the fallen empire that killed the previous king during peace talks. It was probably the easiest crisis for me of all, because all I had to do was send one of my weakest fleets with an army that destroyed everything along the way and the crisis was over. XD

My first time playing Stellaris, I played with a friend in a co-op game (b4 co-op game mode this was in early 2023) and the Great Khan was our mid game crisis. I was so overwhelmingly powerful, my fleet along with several vassals made up to just less then equal to the Khan's Fleet. And for roleplay purposes (my friend wanted me to avoid him since he spawned on my borders) I decided to attack said fleet, killing the Khan in the process and pretty much ending the mid-game crisis before it became a crisis. I was new at the time, and had no idea how great of a accomplishment this was. Tho tbf rng was on my side

My most recent Terran Empire playthrough used the Great Khan crisis to their benefit, by removing custodian term limits and becoming the Galactic Imperium within 10 years after the crisis spawned. I had over 100k DW, thanks to many benefiting resolutions and a huge navy of 500k fleet power of Star Destroyers (Star Wars Empire ships and weapon components mods), compaired to the 10-40k DW of the other 12 empires

Or the Great Khan can spawn in at age 90 and die of old age in the first 2 months. One of the weirdest things I've had happen.
