Say it again! Yes! As an exMo, who is attending an interfaith seminary, I am consistently baffled/horrified at the things I thought were “Christ-like” as a Mormon, versus what I know and understand about Jesus of Nazareth now. Not to say Jesus was never sassy, but he certainly wasn’t the kind of mean-spirited person who is calling you names in the comment section, just because you have the audacity to speak about you own lived experiences.

You talk all you want about the temple experience, you’re helping an untold number of people dealing with this horror story. When my wife and I went through that whole process, I remember looking at her , in the temple, and saying, “ there is something really wrong here”. At that time 1978 there was no readily available information about the church to fact check and we were taught that absolutely everything else was wrong and wicked. In my heart, I knew that the wickedness was in this church and not everyone else. But had no one to talk to. So we left the church and enjoyed a wonderful life free of this cult. But all my life the Mormon boogeyman was still in the closet, occasionally tormenting me with the preprogrammed idea “ what if I’m wrong”. At that point I would never return because I knew it was evil, but never talked about it. Then the internet came along and so did you! Among others with the same desire to bring clarity and honesty to this whole disgusting charade. You have improved my life, my mental health, and brought immeasurable peace and unquestionable confidence in my decision to leave this horrible cult behind me for good.

If it needs to be kept secret, it probably isn’t a good thing. Period. End of sentence.
There’s a massive difference between not telling someone who their secret santa is and telling them they’ll go to hell if they don’t marry the prophet at 15.
The former is a fun surprise, the later involves literal crimes. It’s a shame that the USA doesn’t even stop minors from getting married. Plenty of states allow for it. Sure, you need your parents’ permission, but are they really in a good state of mind to be making those decisions since they’ve grown up in a cult? I’d say no.

You keep speaking out! I wish I had someone tell me the truth about Mormon beliefs and what happens in the temple before I got sucked in. The LDS Church preys upon vulnerable people to convert them. The missionary lessons are white-washed and hasty. You are helping to save others from that cult.

I think you could say the same thing about hypocrisy in all super conservative versions of Christianity. Jesus teaches compassion and said “It’s easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to get into heaven” and yet so many Christians preach the prosperity gospel and homophobia and shame sex workers, which Jesus hung out with.

I attended an LDS church every week for nearly a year. I was only 16, and dating an LDS boy. Obviously, his family wanted to convert me. One thing I noticed immediately was that all the songs, and a lot of the talk and practices, worshipped the prophets, not God or Jesus. I always thought that was a bit weird at the time. In retrospect, I'm very glad I never joined the LDS church. I had bad enough experiences in the mainstream protestant church as the years went by! I now consider myself a non-theistic pagan witch, lol.

It angers me that you can't reveal these things without backlash.
Like, if your religion is so amazing, something that (nearly?) every member goes through isn't supposed to be so secretive.
Information control is one of the things that I will always look down upon. Transparancy and honesty (including a "we don't know") for me is paramount to trust.

Albert Einstein has said, “Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds”.
Thank you for the courage to speak your truth and let your voice be heard. I am confident you are inspiring many others to follow their heart and Soul and to break ranks with hypocrisy.
Are you familiar with the crabs 🦀 in a bucket metaphor? It goes like this. As intrepid brave crabs 🦀 attempt to climb out of the bucket that eventually will spell their doom at the upcoming crab & clam bake, the crabs in the bottom of the bucket will try to pull them back down into bucket as they climb towards the top of the bucket. That’s the phenomena we see in all cult like groups and religions, not just Mormonism.
Hard core Mormons are reluctant for exMo’s to expose their hypocrisy, deceit and chicanery.
Joseph Smith has been totally discredited at this point as a fraud, charlatan, con artist, trickster, pedophile, arsonist, etc. but many folks become psychologically dependent on their cult leaders and will defend them to their last breath. It’s not uncommon from the cults I’ve been in. Anything that might cause cognitive dissonance is vehemently attacked or avoided.
When you have Mormon trolls attacking you, you know you’re on the right track!

Same with Secret Lives of Mormon Wives. They attacked those women so viciously saying that they’re making the church look bad. When in reality those online mobs made the church look worse than a few TV episodes ever could.
