The bulk of the Ukrainian Lviv`s housing stock dates from the times of Soviet leaders Joseph Stalin, Nikita Khrushchev, and Leonid Brezhnev.
Such structures dominate the peripheries of cities across what was once the Soviet Union and Eastern Bloc. They go by varying names, from Plattenbau in East Germany to Panelhaฬz in Hungary to Brezhnevki in Russia. All were built after World War II to cheaply house the masses in a way that jived with communist ideology.

What a big difference between the 2 architectural designs. Ukrainians love beautifying their surroundings.

Ukrainians beautify everything.
It's in their character.

It must be in the Ukrainian DNA to want to take those most yukky, plain things from muscovian/soviet era and add something to make it into something nicely unique and "with a difference", as I call it when I alter plain clothes a little) Thank God Ukrainians can add that beautiful touch to such ghastly old ussr monstrosities!

Soviet modernism? Isnโ€™t that when everything is in rubbles? Keep them as long as they serve some purpose but get inspiration for new buildings elsewhere.
