I really can't stand Macro Cosmos. Especially because I have to run it for my Metaphys deck to function at all. I would play a Macro Cosmos that only affected myself and be happy about it.
Seriously though, I wouldn't notice anything lacking if Macro Cosmos just, Didn't Happen.

Not only is it Shinra, Macro Cosmos is an underbaked Shinra cosplay. Who's only material they had to work with was construction paper

Macrocosmos seems like a victim of lack of dev time if anything. This seems like a plotline they wanted to have and for the life of them couldn't figure out how to properly include into the game and it would have needed a total overhaul, but the clock was ticking so they just shipped it half baked and nonsensical.
You could argue they would have messed it up regardless but I think that gen 5 onwards they've become semi-half decent at writing when they're not extremely obviously rushing the game, just that this franchise was made to be corporate slop for a quick buck so that ends up being like half the time they release a game

When the game first came out, I had a weird theory/feeling that Leon would be more heavily involved with them
I mean, think about it, he's the only character with literal adverts plastered all over him. I think subverting his can-do-no-wrong persona by making him some kinda industry plant would probably be more interesting than what we got, and would make him doing everything conveniently offscreen less of an obvious symptom of a lack of development time

Macro Cosmos was just a worse Aether Foundation with a worse Team Skull for their “oh the evil team isn’t actually the evil team” rug pull. Bold to do that immediately after doing it the previous games.
Fat Tony Stark over here was worried about the future, like hundred of years from now, he couldn’t wait ONE DAY to speak with Leon about what to do. Dude is an idiot. There’s no rush to solve this problem and bringing on an apocalypse to harness Eternatus’s energy is a huge jump to make. And weren’t they already harnessing Dynamax energy? The same energy he was trying to take from Eternatus?
There’s also a Pokémon less dangerous that’s a living battery down south he could’ve gotten. Regieleki would solve this crisis he predicted. Or any electric Pokémon.
This game’s story was rushed and plain bad.

Chairman Rose and "Macro cosmos" (who ever they are, I literally didn't know they had a name) clearly was thrown together to justify the legendary heroes plotline having something to do, so that there can be two different box legendries showing up before the credits of the game, so that there can be two different versions of the game.

It's a shame that Eternatus was done dirty. It is the third legendary of gen 8 and it got shoehorned in last minute just to be the big boss fight. And then no one cared about it once it was caught.

This is just my theory but that battle and all other battles are needed to harness max energy. Aside from the dens in the main map and Isle of armor, the Max lair in crown tundra, the stadiums are built to both harness and collect energy from dynamax pokemon.

I think the implication is supposed to be that Rose is so impatient because he’s losing control of Eternatus as it’s regaining power, but is trying to keep what he’s doing extremely hush hush. Of course I do still think we should’ve had a bit more exposition so that could be more than an implication, but as it stands it’s easy to see why people think his impatience is dumb.

Sword and Shield's story would've been better if they removed these guys. If there was ever a time to nix the whole evil team requirement, it was the game that had 3 rivals with their own character arcs. Maybe then Marnie and Bede's development would've happened on-screen.

In the anime they fixed this with one change- The legendary broke out on accident. That's why it happened on such a big day. It's not a fantastically written (you'd have to redo this thing from the ground up for that) but it made chairman rose 1000% less stupid.

They literally made Rose the most impatient person in existence. The plot would've been better if the energy crisis was only a few days away but Leon had been procrastinating this issue for months. Then Rose lost his patience after Leon tries to put it off "one more day." Instead, they literally have all the time in the world to solve this.

Whats wild is that Rose kinda seems like the exact opposite of Shinra, like the reason he wants to do his plan is to save people 1000 years in the future who won't know he ever existed.
There's... Something there, but also just not. The fact a man so focused on the big picture can't wait exactly 4 more hours to do his plan is... Well, you said it yourself, even the average terminally online pokemon fan could see through how terrible this is.

Not to mention Team Dim Sun did it first. 🫠 (I have replayed the ranger games multiple times the endgame confrontation for Shadows of Almia is hype meanwhile my copy of sword is unfinished because procrastinating team logistics for the league.
