I might have an explanation for why this happened. It might be due to a dead zone radius where it picks up one that was scanned a couple hundred blocks away. During the time, the eyes were a new buggy feature.

They should make it so eyes of ender only lead to unlit portals or maybe unused portals in case a portal spawns filled.

Eyes of ender used to take you to the portal itself but now it just takes you to the stronghold

The other day I was using the locate command in bedrock edition to find a village and it said that the nearest one has 2000 blocks away. On my way there, I found another village about 700 blocks closer
