TURBULENT STORY of The Death of Julius Caesar by Vincenzo Camuccini.

Originally commissioned in 1793 by Frederick Hervey, Earl of Bristol, the painting’s journey was eventful.

Camuccini first finished a version in 1796, but after receiving negative reviews, he destroyed it and started again, ultimately completing the final piece a decade later (1806).

Hervey’s death in 1803 led his heirs to refuse payment, so Camuccini sold the painting to Joachim Murat in 1807.

After changing hands multiple times, the artwork found its permanent home in 1864 at the National Museum of Capodimonte in Naples.

Caesars original last words were "You assholes!"
Brutus commented that it were bad choice on last words, on which Caesar answered him "You, too! Brutus!"
