I have never caulked a toilet and I installed them for 50 years. If the wax leaks water will go downstairs and all the caulk will do is hide the leak for a while.

I have been a handyman for over 40 years. I've never heard of calking a toilet to stop leaks Or prevent Leaks, the only thing the Calk is good for is to make it look decent when you're done.

i know code says must be caulk but I'm a master plumber do not caulk toilet trying to get code changed even with 1" gap people don't see till too late if it wasn't caulked water will make way out front stepping in it you'll notice

What about sewer gas? You should chalk completely around the toilet.
