Oldschool boxing is such a beautiful martial art. I love the newer school boxers but the ruleset has really watered the art down

Archie Moore was one of Foreman's trainers back then and obviously taught him a lot, especially that cross arm defense Foreman later used after the 10 year layoff

After watching the original long version of this video I never looked at Foreman in the same way again. It is probably the most instructive style breakdown I have ever seen.

Absolutely fantastic. No one is like foreman in the modern day.

Damn,
I didnā€™t know this was an actual technique.
I always thought Forman was just slow and flinched a lot.
I thought the ā€œstopā€ was him flinching and prematurely blocking a punch that hasnā€™t been thrown yet.
I always wondered what he seen in the ring that i couldnā€™t see from the tv.
His opponents shoulder, feet, hips moving, that would make him ā€œflinch/stopā€ so much?
Now I know!!!
Thanks for the knowledge!!!

George was trained by the great Archie Moore. He also adopted the cross armed guard made famous by Moore.

My favorite fighter ever. Above Sugar Ray Robinson and Marvelous Marvin Haggler.

I think I would do the stop the punch and leverage blocks to beat the 1970 joe frazier had I fought him.

I presume in the longer video it's gone into but in his later career his defence changed more to a cross arm guard probably in response to the loss to Ali and after seeing Ken Norten block Ali's jab with relative ease using a cross arm guard.
