I never knew about this. 😲 It's too bad the actors never got to reprise their roles for an adaptation of that book

I love how the yellow spotted lizards are just bearded dragons with fangs

I've actually read small steps, was surprised when I realized it was a "sequel ". Different vibe, but equally well written. I liked reading about Armpit trying to push forward after returning from Camp Greenlake and struggling to figure out how he fits into society.

Also, I thought it was a nice detail that Stanley send Armpit a case of Sploosh. Although he wasn't sure if Stanely was proud of his dad's invention or was insinuating something 😂

I have known about Small Steps for a while now, but the set up didn't exactly enthrall me, so I've never picked it up. But I get through a couple dozen books a year these days and did Holes last year (I did a kick of rereading a bunch of stuff I remembered from elementary and middle school) and, enjoying it as much as I did, maybe it's reason enough to finally give it a shot.

Honestly, if they turned Small Steps into a movie shortly after Holes came out 20 years back, I’d be interested in watching it. It sounds interesting seeing the other inmates at Camp Greenlake become more humanized after the ending of Holes, and their lives outside of the camp.

I read Small Steps when I was in 6th grade. I had read Holes the previous year, so I was excited when I found out there was a sequel. Unlike its predecessor, which was popular enough to be made into a movie, Small Steps seems to have flown under most people's radars. I almost never hear it talked about online.

I remember when Holes came out, my teacher was going to have us read the book, but instead, she let us watch the movie when it came out on DVD, then we read the sequel book after. (At least i think that was how it went because i have zero memory of reading the first holes book, but i remember reading the sequel ans watching the movie in class). We got to make up our own "What happened next" short stories. It was my first ever fanfic.

I read the book in high school. It was pretty good from what I remember. I know I used details in the book for a collage project in one of my classes. Did well with it and I would probably read it again if I happened to stumble upon it.

My Mom is a reading teacher and included both Holes and Small Steps in her curriculum for the longest time!

Oh shit I actually read this! I was telling my friend about this and he didn't believe it. I lowkey like it more than Holes.

I think it's sad that it's canon that X-Ray goes back to misbehaving

Hearing the plot of the Hole sequel with Armpit as the main character makes me think this would've been a Disney Channel movie back in the day especially after hearing the Teen Pop Star part

I read this book in middle
school and it legit struck a chord. As someone who has been through a lot of armpits struggles I empathize with him a lot.
