Dementia is more than occasional forgetfulness, it’s a progressive condition that affects memory, cognitive ability, and communication. Memory problems are a key sign, with people forgetting recent events, appointments, or asking the same questions repeatedly. They often rely on notes or reminders for things they used to remember easily.

Cognitive decline is another major symptom. Tasks like managing finances or following a recipe become confusing, and poor judgment or getting lost in familiar places becomes common.

Lastly, communication struggles are another sign. People with dementia may have trouble finding words, or repeat themselves in conversations. Following or engaging in discussions becomes increasingly difficult.

Not all memory loss is dementia – forgetting where you left your keys or a name isn’t necessarily a sign of dementia
