Adding fractions with different denominators is easiest when you find the least common denominator and multiply the numerators. This method simplifies the process and gives you the correct answer efficiently.

This only works if the LCM of the denominators are just the two numbers multiplied
If the denominators are, for example, 4 and 6, when they are multiplied, you get 24, but their LCM is 12, so you would have to simplify you answer further

This is effective because of the least common denominator (I think, it was something like that) basically the first common denominator is 20, 4*5 is 20 so whatever the numerator is (in this case 3) is multiplied by 5, and 5*4 is 20 so whatever the numerator is (in this case 1) is multiplied by 4. 3*5=15 and 1*4= 4. We add these two together which makes 19 get the numerator for 20 which is the denominator. Furthermore, 1/5 + 3/4 = 19/20

you guys do realize that all he/she is doing is not showing the middle step?
1. multiply diagonally
2. multiply the bottom
3. (they didn’t show) write the equivalent
aka 1/5 + 3/4 = 4/20 + 15/20
4. add
rewatch to see what i mean
