You have said this before, and I took note. It's the piece of advice that had the greatest affect on my mixes. Who knew spending a night drinking and listening to all of my favourite music would be the turning point!
At the moment, I'm listening on a Sony home entertainment system built for Mini Disk and Playstation 2. There's some PreSonus Eris 3.5 Studio Monitors for sale with the bidding at $40 aud, but I thought to myself earlier that they're probably not essential enough to warrent bidding on because I know this system now, and out comes this vid! I'd like them, but I wouldn't be in the running this week because it would leave me flat broke, and I'm sure I can do without them now. A few years ago, I definitely would have thought them essential, "You can't mix on stereo speakers". Now I think you can if you know them well.

In my opinion one can learn a great deal more listening to good examples of bad examples. Great mixes sound great everywhere although different. If listening to a mix with nasally vocals sounds good you know the monitors / room are hiding things. I always brought mixes that had various problems to help reference my ears to where I’ll be working.
